THE LITTLE LAMP
Listen as you read...
Little lamp was shining bright
On a porch, Diwali night.
Smiling at the happy street,
Children playing on their feet.
She saw the vendor of the store.
Selling sweets and snacks galore.
Every kind of tasty treat
Crunchy munchy, salty sweet.
Into the air the lantern blew
Little lamps up they flew
In the darkness of the night
Lifting spirits high and bright.
People turned to greet each other
Time to meet friend and brother.
Giving thanks for all they had
Yummy food makes hearts glad.
“Why so bright little lamp?”
Asked a squirrel on the ramp.
“To end darkness with my light.
I shine bright through the night!”
Hey kids, do you know that the festival of lights Diwali is celebrated to mark the victory of good over evil and to remind us to destroy the darkness in our lives with the light of knowledge. Happy Diwali to everyone!
